Nick Cave Fixes 2

Nick Cave: ‘face to face’ in 2007

Welcome to Nick Cave Fixes 2, a split-off from the original Nick Cave Fixes page.  This page primarily contains studio videos, multi-media interviews (print, audio, and video formats), and hot links.  Click titles and another window opens (most re-direct to YouTube). FYI: I check the links from time to time but you might find a broken one. Sorry! Try my Nick Cave Video Fixes , a huge collection of Nick Cave videos. In fact, I’ve put a VODPOD widget in the sidebar here - you can scroll back and forth to view the selection (about 120 vids) and open a player window right here. Nifty gadget, that.

Enjoy!

VIDEOS:

Straight to You” - from Henry’s Dream (1992).  Directed by Anton Corbjin, note the numerous costume changes by Nick.  He said he didn’t like this video, although he likes Corbjin’s photography.  The band had to wait around between takes, and got progressively wasted by the end.

What a Wonderful World” - duet with Shane MacGowan.  Nick jokingly said Shane ’spent a lot of time on his hair’ for this one.

The Mercy Seat” - original 1988 video. Nick didn’t ‘trust’ the color portions of this video, believing that it should have been done in B&W, as an appropriate follow up to Ghosts of the Civil Dead.

Bring it On” - The infamous ‘booty video’ from Nocturama CD (with Chris Bailey). Nick wanted to know what artists were putting in their videos these days and was told ‘hot women.’ This is the result. TWISTED.

Babe, I’m on Fire, Part I “ (a must - see, if you have the time :))

Babe, I’m on Fire. Part II” (again, time is an issue but what great reward to see Nick singing in his socks and band member playing dress-up)

The Singer “- Nick considers himself ‘quite handsome’ in this one.

Wanted Man” - Fabulous tour video footage set to this Bob Dylan cover

The next one is a RARE treat from 1979 — a video clip of Nick, with Boys Next Door, performing “Shivers.” (FWIW: A guy I met in an online forum, Joe H, characterized him here as a ‘pretty private school boy, before all the drugs.’ He was lovely, yes he was, but I like the mature Nick!  He rings my bell, the old clapper!  *grins*)

“Shivers” (Boys Next Door, with Nick Cave, 1979)

“Deanna” - late 80s, massive hit for the band, people still scream for this one

“In the Ghetto” - video, around 1986, Nick is stoned out of his gourd, performing the famous Elvis tune (from Kicking Against the Pricks CD)

“Nick the Stripper” - when Nick was with The Birthday Party (1981?). I include it for his youth and its shock value

“Dead Joe” - another with The Birthday Party - Nick gets attacked by fans. A hoot, holler, and a scream (in spite of bad quality).

“Junkyard” - another with Birthday Party

“Stagger Lee” - the video (Nick’s wardrobe choice, of pink shirt and matching lipstick, manages to make fun of boy band culture while subverting the gangsta violence inherent in that song lyric. Love those wild dance moves!)

“The Weeping Song” - great song, sung by Blixa and Nick, fabulous video (especially the dancing, which Nick describes as “looking like two gay businessmen”)

“Love Letter” - the video concept is a little odd, but a great song, nonetheless

“15ft of Pure White Snow” - the video (an all-time favorite song and video - rivals Stagger Lee in audacity)

“Henry Lee” - Nick Cave and PJ Harvey duet, from Murder Ballads CD, after which they fell in love and had a mad affair, which she eventually ended, and broke his heart. Nick often boasted this video was done “in one take” and that none of it was pre-arranged except for who would get up during which parts. Crackles with sexual tension. Marvelous.

“(Are You) The One I’ve Been Waiting For” - from The Boatman’s Call CD, written in the aftermath of the breakup with PJ, is considered to be Nick’s most emotionally vulnerable record, yielding a favorite love song.

“As I Sat Sadly By Her Side” - video, from No More Shall We Part CD, a personal favorite.

“Do You Love Me” - video, filmed in Sao Paolo, Brazil, where Nick was then living with “Viv”, the mother of his firstborn son, Luke.

“Into My Arms” - one of the best videos ever made for Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds.

“Loverman” - Nick claims he hired a hypnotist to work on the group before they filmed the video. Some moments are weird, some hilarious, the performance is lusty and intense. ['L' is for 'love' and 'O' is for 'only'...]

“Red Right Hand” - a favorite song and video, on the nature of Evil
['You're one microscopic cog in his catastrophic plan, designed and directed by his red right hand']

“Jack the Ripper” - video (Nick calls out some “unwholesome” moments in this effort directed by Jesse Dylan)

Where the Wild Roses Grow” - A world-famous duet with Kylie Minogue, which is practically a national anthem in Nick’s native Australia. Great video performances and terrific cinematography.

These next few videos are from the Abattoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus CD:

“Get Ready for Love” - 2004 video (love the band’s gospel sound, and wow, the message is deep)

“Nature Boy” - video, from Abattoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus CD, 2004

“Breathless” - video, from Abattoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus CD, 2004

LIVE INTERVIEWS:
(Added 6/30/07)

Nick Cave Interview, with ‘Aussie raconteurs Roy Slaven and HG Nelson’. This is pretty good, not sure of the date, however. These two chappies keep chumming the waters but Saint Nick refuses to accept their poisonous bait. Run time: about 5 minutes, total.

Interesting remarks by Nick, on smoking (he wakes up every 2 hours to have a cig), on art school (he failed because his teacher could not relate to ’sleazy art’), and most interestingly, on the nature of sadness.
