GRINDERMAN - ‘Honeybee’
King Alfred Ballroom, Hove. 2nd July 2008

This is Grinderman’s rehearsal space, near Nick’s house in Hove. Last week, the band invited the locals to attend and a lucky 270 or so people got in. What I’m including is the only live footage I’ve seen - total pandemonium.

GRINDERMAN - ARCHIVES
Grinderman

In case you’ve been living in a CAVE (I crack myself up sometimes!), Grinderman is Nick’s latest musical group project, featuring Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey, and Jim Sclavunos (all Bad Seed band members).

Grinderman’s self-titled CD is doing phenomenally well and they have been touring this past spring and into the summer, just completing a brief American tour at the end of July.  Since the new band is enjoying a massive surge of popularity, many fans are wondering whether The Bad Seeds will be reinvented after the musical juggernaut of Grinderman.

Not to worry. By all accounts, The Bad Seeds are far from over. Nick has reportedly been writing songs for a new Bad Seeds CD, which was to begin recording sometime in summer 2007. (Updates on this project are pending, as of August 2007.)  Further, it’s worth noting Nick’s claims, in early interviews about the Grinderman project, that “it is an important record” which he expects will heavily influence the future sound of the Bad Seeds.  Harder, with more of Nick on guitar, perhaps? Brilliant!

Musings on Grinderman:

Thanks to the many fans who uploaded photos from the short and intense Grinderman American tour dates at the end of July 2007. You can see a few, along with links, at my Grinderman concert photos post.

To read other stuff I’ve written about Grinderman, use the pull-down ‘TOPICS” menu on the sidebar, where you’ll find archives categorized under “Music” with sub-categories for “Grinderman” and “Nick Cave”.

Meanwhile — ENJOY YOUR GRINDERMAN FIXES!

Cheers, Morgan

Recently, Salon.com’s music critic David Marchese conducted an informative interview session about Nick’s latest musical project, Grinderman, in Conversations with Nick Cave (April 12th, 2007).

*Download the MP3 file of the Salon interview between Marchese, Nick, and Jim S. (It is about 45 minutes of raw dialogue, and pure gold, for it places a LOT of context into Salon’s final print version.)
