Mistuh Grinderman is back

Nick Cave is taking a ‘break’ from the Bad Seeds to tour with Grinderman (who plan to put out another album in 2009). This following clip suffers ’shaky hand syndrome’ but the sound is decent. Best, you get to see the lewd and lascivious Mr. Cave at work. Great video capture, filmed at Roskilde, Denmark, July 4, 2008.

Grinderman (Live at Roskilde) - “Grinderman”

Yes I’m the grinderman
Seven days a week
In the pale moonlight
In the silver rain
I’m the grinderman
Any way I can

(lyrics by nick cave)

Grinderman are: Nick Cave | Warren Ellis | Martyn Casey | Jim Sclavunos

FYI: I just put up some G-Man photos at Nick Cave Fixes Blog, where there is more news, particularly about upcoming remasters/reissues of the Bad Seeds back catalog, and a Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds film project called, ‘Do you love me like I love you?’, by directors Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard (who have done all of the DLD vids).

Deb,

Warren is fabulous. Love that wildman look! This band is really tight - there’s just Nick and Warren out front and Martyn and Jim lay down the rhythm. They absolutely C.O.O.K.

I love from 2:24 - 3:15 when he’s singing right to the camera. Trying to get Warren in the shot but missing some theatrics by Cave, I think. Also, at 1:54, where Nick is holding his mic and grinding away at his guitar, there is a matching still photo, taken from stage left. In fact, I put it up today: it’s the last one in the row from Roskilde — by hanjosan. What a shot. The first and last ones are my current favs. (When Nick finally picked up a guitar, he dropped a Love Bomb on us all.)

It’s sad to realize that this sound probably would not have been born if not for Blixa’s leaving. I do think Nick felt challenged to create ‘real rock and roll’ WITH INPUT from the musicians, the lack of which is rumored to be the reason Blixa left The Bad Seeds. Art has to evolve. No matter what is the nature of a relationship, breaking up is hard to do. (Haven’t most of Nick’s lovers left him first, as well? Hmmm.) I find it rather poetic that it was Blixa who broke away, as an artist with his own vision, rejecting the role that Nick created for him so many years ago. Blixa always said he hated the guitar but that he would play [anything] Nick asked him to. Sad. (The Weeping Song should be retired, just as Where The Wild Roses Grow. It’s time.)

Hugs,
Morgan
