Nick Cave Night on BBC Four

Interview from NICK CAVE NIGHT ON BBC FOUR - 4th JULY 2008

Thx to Otholar - Special hugs to Judit, for sending this link.

Here’s the program schedule for the BBC4 Sessions:

BBC FOUR SESSION: NICK CAVE AND THE BAD SEEDS
9.30 - 10.30pm

SONGWRITER’S CIRCLE
10.30 - 11.20pm

NICK CAVE ON LATER…WITH JOOLS HOLLAND
11.20pm - 12.20am

The LSO St. Luke’s concert was filmed last month in London for tonight’s broadcast.  Nigel Smith, who was there to watch this wondrous thing go down, wrote the following in his Carnival Saloon Blog on Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds  (June 30, 2008):

At times Cave came across like a revival preacher, stomping his feet and converting any non-believers there might have been in the audience, yet one of my favourite moments was not musical. After being told that the curfew meant there would be no time for an encore, Cave said that BBC Four was a “crappy channel” and he was “more of an ITV man”. I love the image of the Cave family sitting down to Coronation Street after their tea. READ IT

That’s our Nick-ster.  Never bow to Establishment Rules without first doing some damage. Here’s the set list, which makes me insane with envy.  Lucky UK folks!

Hi Deb,

When you were surfing Flickr did you see Andrea Barsanti’s ‘Tupelo’ shot? It’s in the Nick photo gallery and also on my desktop. Dramatic as hell!

(I love the anecdote about Nick calling BBC4 a ‘crappy station’ because they nixed his encore. My kinda guy.)

BTW: I still want to answer your other comment from July 1, but have to wait until later. I’m so tired. The heat wave broke and rain is crashing down outside, which always makes me sleepy.

It is 5 a.m. on Saturday, a good day to sleep in. Sigh. Snuggle up time. Yawn!

Hugs, Morgan

Thanks for the link. It was indeed an awesome experience. Looking forward to Grinderman at the Latitude Festival in a few weeks.

Cheers

Nigel

Welcome! Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy the Grinderman show. (I’m curious about their set list.) Hopefully, you’ll write a post about it?

I wonder how long Nick plans to keep Grinderman going. You can hear their influence on DLD - the Bad Seeds sound has completely transformed, so why keep it going? Perhaps Grinderman provides Cave with a musical alter-ego which he needs in order to free himself from the creative constraints of working so long with The Bad Seeds. Not so unusual for a sensitive artist like Nick Cave, for whom stasis equals death: I’m more afraid of things staying the same cause the game is never won by standing in any one place for too long.

Speaking of which, I think Nick is finally reconciled to the fact that ‘Boatman’s Call’ is a masterpiece of songwriting and vocal execution. Just because it is highly personal does not reduce it to the level of trashy literature. Yet, his fear of duplicating that style is near-pathological. I’m grateful that he let ‘Jesus of the Moon’ pass by his rigorous censorship guidelines against love songs.

Cheers,
Morgan

RE: In Session for BBC Four Nick Cave performs at St. Luke’s Church for BBC Four

I’m trying to access the BBC link to watch last night’s show but it’s giving me a 404 error message. WTF?

Go to: http://www.bbc.co.uk/musictv/nickcave/
Does the “Watch the Show” link work for anyone?

Meanwhile, theoriginalmilo has rescued the day and uploaded each song to YouTube. Kisses, Milo!

Links will be listed momentarily, at Nick Cave Fixes Blog.

LOVELY!
Morgan
